How to connect ChatGPT to your business (and Claude too)

Connect ChatGPT to your business so it can hand work to your team. What an MCP connector is, step-by-step setup for ChatGPT and Claude, 10 commands to try and staying safe.

ChatGPT and Claude are good at answering questions, writing and helping you think. But in a regular chat they know nothing about your business and can't do anything outside the conversation: they don't see your post plan, don't look for clients and don't remember yesterday's edits. A connector changes that: the assistant gets access to a working system and acts in it when you ask, within the limits that system allows.

What an MCP connector is, in plain words

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that lets AI assistants connect to outside services. Think of it as a power socket: the service publishes a list of actions, and ChatGPT or Claude sees that list and calls the right action when you ask for it. The assistant itself stays the same; what changes is what it can reach.

For a business owner it means one simple thing: no more switching between windows. You type “prepare next week's posts” into the chat you already use, and the work is done by the service the assistant is connected to.

What becomes possible

Once a team of AI employees is connected to ChatGPT or Claude, from a single chat you can:

• give tasks to the whole team or to one employee, and run any of its skills;
• wait for the result right in the same answer;
• approve or reject work;
• teach employees rules and change their character;
• look at their memory and notebooks (the lead base, the keyword map, the risk register), the post calendar, the business profile and your limits;
• search past work.

A typical morning might look like this: you ask ChatGPT what's waiting for approval, approve two posts, reject the third with a reason and send the client hunter on a search, all without opening the dashboard. Everything lands in the same dashboard and counts toward your plan's limits.

What you'll need

• A VIT TEAM account. Only the account owner can connect assistants.
• ChatGPT on the web with a Plus, Pro or Business plan, or Claude.
• For Claude on Team and Enterprise plans, the organisation owner, who adds the connector in the organisation settings.

Step 1. Create a connection link

In the VIT TEAM dashboard, open Connections, find the ChatGPT and Claude block, type what the link is for (say, “ChatGPT”) and press Create a connection link. Copy it right away: the link is shown only once, and you'll need it for both ChatGPT and Claude. Treat it like a password, because whoever has it can give orders to your team.

Step 2. Connect it to ChatGPT

• Open Settings → Security and login and turn on Developer mode.
• Go to chatgpt.com/plugins and press “+”.
• Name it VIT TEAM and paste the link as the connection URL.
• Under authentication choose “No authentication” (the key is already in the link) and press Create.
• Open a new chat, press “+” → Developer mode and pick VIT TEAM.

To test it, ask: “What is my team working on?” ChatGPT's interface changes from time to time, so if a menu item looks different, check OpenAI's current help pages.

Step 3. Connect it to Claude

• Open Customize → Connectors.
• Press Add custom connector.
• Name it VIT TEAM, paste the link into the URL field and press Add.
• In a chat, turn on VIT TEAM in the tools menu.

On Team and Enterprise plans, the organisation owner adds the connector in the organisation settings. In Claude, the employees' skills show up as ready-made commands, so you can run them without remembering the wording.

10 commands to try

Write in plain language; the assistant will work out which action to call. A few examples:

• Ask my VIT TEAM to prepare next week's posts and show me what they made.
• Have the client hunter find 10 car repair shops in [city] with weak websites.
• What's waiting for my approval right now?
• Approve the first post and reject the second: too long, put the price in the first line.
• Teach the content maker a rule: no emojis and never use the words “unique” or “best”.
• Make the designer's character stricter.
• Show me the client hunter's lead base.
• What's on the post calendar this week?
• How many requests do I have left?
• Find the autumn sale post in past work and ask for a similar one for the holidays.

Staying safe: the link is a password

• Don't publish the link or forward it to group chats: anyone who has it can give tasks to your team.
• Make a separate link for each assistant and label it, say “ChatGPT” or “Claude”. Then you can disconnect one without touching the others.
• If a link is lost or may have leaked, create a new one and press Disconnect next to the old one in Connections.
• Connect it only in your own ChatGPT or Claude account, not someone else's or a shared one.
• Everything that goes out under your brand still waits for your approval, in the dashboard or right in the chat with the assistant. The exception is autopilot, if you turn it on.
• Before approving work from the chat, read it in full, just as you would in the dashboard.
